It may not seem like the conversation below between Katie Couric and Brian Solis has much to do with marketing, but it does. Marketing, along with all its applications, strategies and aspirations, does not operate in a vacuum. Instead, it is always subject to environmental factors. For example, any kind of print marketing is subject to the rules, guidelines, dynamics and ethics of print. The same is true of radio, television, e-marketing, and as Couric and Solis discuss, social media. Social media marketing is the most nascent of its kind, and while other areas of marketing (like print) might nowadays take rules and guidelines for granted, the rules and guidelines for social media are just now being reckoned with. As you listen to Couric and Solis talk, closely consider how the topics they discuss could impact a company’s or individual’s social media marketing efforts.
Privacy and personal branding are only two of many topics we will touch upon in this Spring’s Principles of Social Media Marketing course (MKTG 2065) held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00PM. This is a must course for the marketer of tomorrow, and to all others I say, come blog with us, integrate with us, do copyright with us, and be your own brand with us. We’ll be doing all these things and more! Register here.

Such an interesting post. I wonder also if the posts from friends impact how an employer may judge you? It is the old “judged by the company you keep.”
