Nike just released a new commercial featuring Lebron James. He has earned a lot of notoriety in the past year, with him debating leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers, buying airtime instead of holding a press conference to state his decision, and leaving the Cavs for the Miami Heat. In the commercial, Lebron asks the question, “What should I do?” He then proceeds with presenting several ideas as to what he should do in the future that has been presented to him by fans, players, press, etc. In two days online, it has almost 600,000 views.
What is the commercial trying to accomplish? Could it be Nike’s attempt to help Lebron save face with the fans so his merchandise sales don’t drop? After his announcement of leaving Cleveland, there were several fires started by Cleveland fans burning their Lebron memorabilia. Just look at the description of the video to see what it’s all about and hopefully we can all take this lesson into our own lives:
This isn’t about what LeBron James has done, or hasn’t done. This is about the difference between the expectations others may have of him versus the expectations he has of himself. What should he do? The answer is a question.
Will this ad help to repair Lebron’s image? Or will it just go up in flames?
