Team Tip: Oreo Cookie Strategy

Oreo Cookie Strategy

Oreo Cookie Strategy

When working on a team, often a team leader or team member will find it necessary to deliver feedback that could be perceived as negative. Providing feedback for improvement can feel uncomfortable but it may be necessary for the team to succeed. One strategy for providing constructive criticism is to sandwich your more negative feedback between two positive pieces of feedback. The following is an example:

  • Positive and sincere statement of recognition: You did a nice job of researching your part of the project
  • Constructive feedback: I did notice that there were a few errors on the submission. I would recommend having someone at the Writing Center help you with editing before submitting to the group.
  • Positive and sincere statement of recognition: You really are such an asset to this team and I appreciate your dedication to the project.

So the next time you feel anxious about delivering constructive criticism, try serving it using the Oreo Cookie strategy.
