McDonald’s has unleashed the McRib on the American population once again. It is by far the most popular sandwich that they have ever made and has a large cult following. The last time that the McRib appeared on a menu full-time was 1994. McDonald’s spokeswoman Tara Hayes told the AFP that the limited time promotion, “helps to keep fans passionate about the product.” She also added that only a sandwich, so delicious, so special, so elusive, and so legendary could create such a widespread affection among its fans.” Finding a McRib became the equivalent of finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, with the leprechaun playing cards with a genie and a unicorn.
McRibs show up once in a blue moon at select McDonald’s restaurants. The McRib fans are willing to drive hundreds of miles in order to enjoy the simple pleasures of a pork sandwich cut to resemble ribs and slathered in barbecue sauce. To these addicts, it’s almost a pilgrimage to find their religion, the Church of McRib (totally fabricated by me).
So why is now so different? It will be in EVERY McDonald’s restaurant for the next six weeks. Why is this such a big deal? This is a very interested marketing technique that some people will only see paying off for the length of the promotion. The increase in traffic over the next six weeks will be huge for them, as it will allow McDonald’s employees to hopefully hook more customers in with the rest of the menu, keeping them coming back long after the promotion ends.
The public’s fascination with the McRib was even copied in The Simpsons, with Homer driving everywhere to consume as many “Ribwich” sandwiches from Krusty Burger as possible. You know you’ve made it when you’re spoofed by The Simpsons.

I would just like to point out one critical typo in her quote (if that’s even possible). Should not “affection” be “infection”? As in, infected with maximum arterial clogging cholesterol for only $3.
Oh wait, my mistake, that was the Double Down. Were you able to find any nutritional info on the McRib Cody? I’d be interested in a little compare and contrast!
On another note, has anyone seen any good Trader Joe’s adverts lately? I’m addicted to their pita chips.
