In a recent Minneasota Department of Public Safety news release, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety released two TV spots addressing the dangers of texting while driving using dark comedy and body bags. The news release and ads are in advance of a statewide distracted driving enforcement effort on April 21.
View the “Mom” and “Teen” ads and compare these two ads to a PSA from the U.K. which was posted to YouTube in 2009. I will warn you, the U.K. public service announcement is quite graphic. One ad uses dark humor to get the point across and the other uses fear. Which of these ads do you feel is most effective? Would any of the ads persuade you to not text and drive? What type of persuasive advertising works best to change behavior?
