Today there was a really interesting interview with Jesse Schell on Future Tense on public radio. In this episode, The Coming Gamepocalpse, Jesse Schell discussed the impact location based games will have on our society. Jesse Schell is a faculty member from the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University. Watch this TED video of a presentation by Jesse Schell. As you watch the video, consider the impact this trend will have on marketing. Also, what are your personal feelings about this trend? Oh, and as a student, do you think you would be motivated by experience points?

Listening to this makes me think that we might we moving to a new definition of “success” – how bout “he who dies with the most points, wins”? What’s the prize?

I have to say that when the Wii gives me a new stamp or fitness points or my piggy bank turns a new color, it does motivate me a bit. As for prize, that is a good question. What would you want as a prize? Remember Gold Bond Stamps or Green Stamps? This would be a similar concept from the past I suppose. Green Stamps sure motivated my Grandma and parents. I’m going to do a little research on experience points. Maybe it is just how grades are packaged. You work yourself up from O to A? I am personally a bit competitive, so this strategy would work for me. I’d love to see an example.
